On 14th May, Secretary Lynn Hauck was presented with a Longman Award in recognition of her contribution to volunteer organisations within the Longman region. Jon Sullivan established these awards in 2008 to recognize the outstanding contribution volunteers and volunteers organisations make within his electorate. He said that volunteering benefits the volunteer as well as the community through friendships, camaraderie, a sense of purpose and achievement. Lynn was nominated by the society committee who submitted the following information for inclusion in the Longman Awards book.
“Lynn has been the Bribie Island Orchid Society Secretary since 2002 and has worked diligently and tirelessly for the Club’s growth and development. Lynn initiated computerized record keeping with its attendant benefits in printed records, established the most consulted website in Queensland and with her successful grant requests, has increased the club’s assets. When our “home” is built this year, it will be a monument to Lynn.”
